Abstract

The novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is recognized as a global pandemic, affecting more than 530 million individuals worldwide. The COVID contagion presents an exclusive challenge to education. Due to the restrictions recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), governments, health professionals, and other organizations, the educational sector moved from offline to online pedagogy. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of technology in teaching and learning process, student engagement, and faculty involvement toward virtual classrooms as triggered by COVID. A cross-sectional study was conducted to gather information from some teachers and students of Ghana. An online questionnaire was developed to collect data on probable academic outcome envisaged through technology in the midst of educational restriction by the COVID pandemic. About 500 teachers and students were engaged to participate in the investigation. The empirical evidence provided in this study suggests that during the lockdown period, schools undergone technological adoption processes, and students are still involved with various online learning modes. COVID awareness among students was massive, but there existed anxiety, fear, stigma, and discomfort. Change in the education sector through COVID has propelled innovation diffusion. This study showed that the change in the education sector by engaging students with various virtual sessions has created intellectual harmony in the minds of students and faculty members toward technological adaptation for academic success. 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
