This research sought to find a paradigm shift from the old ways of trading to a new form of trading that seeks convenience for the consumers. The study adopted the exploratory research design to explore why it is crucial for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to integrate e-commerce into their business. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research technique for this study. It was concluded that most SMEs do not integrate information technology into their businesses due to a lack of qualified and expert staff who are able to handle the information technology tools in their businesses. It was recommended that to encourage adoption of e commerce by SMEs there is the need for investment in physical structures and human capital right from basic school levels which will rope and normalize information technology as part of business models. 2019 IEEE.
